Situated enroute to Hanle, Rongo is an idyllic village in the lap of sun-baked mountains, bordered by an ambling stream. The small and peaceful nunnery school with 10 nuns and a single teacher is a learning centre for these very young nuns. An ideal environment for quiet contemplation, the small school is surrounded by big bright sunflowers. We spoke to the girls about hygiene and care, passing around hand towels, moisturising soap, toothbrushes, earbuds, baby cream and baby oil. The shy little nuns discarded their reticence and were thrilled to also receive hula-hoops, skipping ropes and a frisbee! On receiving their books, shelves and desks, they gleefully browsing through them, and even pointed out places mentioned in the stories on a map. The clean and calm premises of the Rongo Nunnery School are a wonderful contrast to the city schools and provide the students with the perfect environment for exploring the wonderful world of books.
