effort by 4 of Avalokitesvara Trust‘s volunteers that came to Ladakh from Berlin & Hong Kong this summer!

Since 2011 we have successfully installed some 40 reading rooms in government, private and monastery schools across Leh district, and conducted learner-based

teaching modules for children at primary and secondary levels in selected schools, as well as introducing extra-curricular skills. This year we seek to consolidate the initiative through teacher-training especially, and extending the reach of our various inputs in individual schools. We emphasise the gradual development of interactive, experiential learning rather than one-time inputs of hardware.

The project has attracted phenomenal interest from skilled volunteers across India, many of whom benefit from the experience almost as much as the children

of positive interaction between this remote region and the rest of the country. Numbers of volunteers are restricted to ensure quality and consistency.

The project has also generated much appreciation from teachers

in Ladakh, who generally struggle just to push their students through mandatory exams with limited resources and approaches to learning. We are in constant endeavour to enhance teacher training and provide soft resources regionwide. Given the great demand for this type of work, we envisage pursuing it as extensively as we can in the coming years.
